I personally built besafe.today for friends and family so we can consolidate wildfire, weather, air quality, road, and location-aware safety information in one place instead of jumping between a lot of tabs and services during stressful moments.

This is informational only. It is not an official emergency alert system and it should never replace official emergency services, evacuation orders, local authorities, or trusted public safety sources.

The app stores only the information needed to provide accounts, saved locations, notification history, and safety-map data. Saved locations are stored in SQLite on the server so the danger-detection tools can compare them with fire perimeters, weather alert zones, AQI records, and road events.

GPS location used from this map is requested by your browser when you choose to share it. For AQI lookup, the coordinates are sent to this server over HTTPS and used server-side to ask OpenAQ for nearby readings without exposing the OpenAQ API key. The app does not use that lookup to build a movement profile.

I do not plan to track activity, sell data, or use this information commercially. Where the app needs abuse prevention or admin safety records, it stores a salted network identifier instead of a raw IP address for new records.

Provider data comes from public or government/open sources such as NWS/NOAA, NIFC, OpenAQ, and road-event feeds. Those sources remain the authority for official information.
